Best Times to Visit the Louvre: Avoiding Crowds and Finding Tranquility
Francesco Rossi•February 15, 2024•6 min read

The Louvre receives nearly 9 million visitors a year, so timing matters. Tuesday is the only day the museum is fully closed — plan around that. Weekday mornings (especially Wednesday and Friday) tend to be quieter than weekends.
Peak season runs from June through August and during French school holidays. If you can visit in October, November, or January, you will find significantly shorter lines and more space in front of the major works.
Evening visits on Wednesday and Friday (open until 9:45 PM) offer a completely different atmosphere — softer lighting, fewer tour groups, and a chance to see the Egyptian antiquities and sculpture galleries almost alone.
